How to Read Cricket Statistics
Batting Statistics by Format
The Batting tab above shows career statistics split across Test matches, One Day Internationals (ODI), T20 Internationals (T20) and the Indian Premier League (IPL). Each format demands different skills — Test cricket rewards patience and technique over five days, ODIs require building an innings across 50 overs, and T20 demands explosive hitting from ball one. The headers row shows Test, ODI, T20 and IPL columns so you can compare performance across all formats at a glance.
Key batting metrics: Average = Runs ÷ (Innings − Not Outs) — the fundamental measure of batting quality. Strike Rate (SR) = (Runs ÷ Balls) × 100 — measures scoring speed, crucial in T20 cricket. A Test average above 45 is excellent; in T20s, a strike rate above 140 is considered aggressive. Highest Score shows the best individual innings; an asterisk (*) means the batsman was not out. Centuries (100s) and half-centuries (50s) indicate consistency at the top level.
Bowling Statistics Explained
Bowling stats show Matches, Wickets, Average (Runs per wicket), Economy Rate (Runs per over), Strike Rate (Balls per wicket), and Best Bowling Innings (BBI). A bowling average under 25 in Tests is world class. Economy rate is the primary T20 bowling metric — below 7.0 runs per over is excellent. BBI shows the best single-innings bowling performance (e.g. "6/22" = 6 wickets for 22 runs).
Recent Performances
The Recent Innings and Recent Spells sections at the bottom of each tab show the last five performances. Each row links to the full match scorecard. Recent form is often more valuable than career averages when assessing a player's current contribution to their team.
ICC Player Rankings
ICC Rankings shown in the player profile header indicate current world standing across formats. Rankings are updated after every international match and reflect weighted performance over the previous 3–4 years, with more recent matches given greater importance. Being ranked in the top 10 in any format represents elite status in world cricket. Test rankings carry the most prestige as they reflect sustained performance in the longest and most demanding format.
